Third round of Hankook Tires Drifting Series at The Strip June 18

The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will present the third round of the 2004 Hankook Tires Drifting Series on Friday, June 18 at 6 p.m.  Drifting consists of racing on a specially-designed road course while trying to maintain a controlled slide. Racers are judged on their lap times and sliding ability.  The 2004 Hankook Tires Drifting Series is officiated by the North American Drifting Association (NADA,  Participants may enter four different classes, including Amateur Solo, NADA Stock, NADA Modified and NADA Outlaw (pro).

The Strip¿s Drift Arena is located at the north end of the drag strip pit area, near the half-mile dirt track.


4:30 p.m. -- Race gates open, tech inspection begins.

5:45 p.m. Drivers meeting (mandatory orientation for non-NADA members).

6 p.m. -- Spectator gates open, open practice for all classes, one-lap runs.

9 p.m. -- Amateur Solo trophy competition, one lap per car.

9:20 p.m. -- NADA Stock, NADA Modified and NADA Outlaw qualifying (two laps per car, top eight scores advance to eliminations).

10 p.m. -- NADA Stock, NADA Modified and NADA Outlaw top-eight competition; followed by: NADA Stock final four, NADA Modified final four, NADA Outlaw final four, NADA Stock championship, NADA Modified championship and NADA Outlaw championship.

11:15 p.m. -- Conclude event.

Drifting competition rules:

Competitors must be 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license.

Clothing must include long sleeves and full pants (no baggy clothes).

Full-face helmet with Snell 2000 rating must be worn during competition.

Firesuits suits (if used) must have SFI rating.

Cars must not leak fluids while running. 

Nitrous oxide bottles must be removed before passing through tech inspection.

Tires must be in good condition (no damage and no exposed belts).

Stock safety restraint systems must be employed.

If an aftermarket restraint system is employed, the factory restraint system must be disabled.

Aftermarket restraint systems must bolt to the frame or rollcage.

All decisions made by the technical inspectors and race directors are final.

Drivers must possess a valid NADA (North American Drifting Association) membership to compete in point series competition.

Drivers without NADA membership will be eligible to participate in the Amateur Solo trophy competition only.

Driver accepts responsibility for any damage to his/her vehicle.

No one under 16 permitted in pits. Minors (under the age of 18) must have completed parental consent form.


Amateur Solo -- Open to street-legal vehicles only. Limited to the first 30 Non-NADA members to enter.  Amateur drivers must attend mandatory orientation/drivers meeting at 5:45 p.m. to participate.
