Purse increase ensures 2004 Jerry¿s Nugget Championship Drag Racing Series season ends with a bang at The Strip at LVMS on Oct. 2

$2,000-to-win Super Pro finale on National Dragster Challenge Night

The 2004 Jerry¿s Nugget Championship Drag Racing Series will end with a bang on National Dragster Challenge Night, Oct. 2, at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. In addition to increased winners¿ purses, each final-round victor will receive an NHRA "Wally" trophy and additional prizes. Named for NHRA founder Wally Parks, the coveted "Wally" is the holy grail of professional drag racing, akin to the Motion Picture Industry of America¿s Oscar statue.

"We wanted to end the season with a bang, so we increased the winners¿ purses," said Chris Blair, LVMS¿ sr. director of drag racing operations. "Super Pro will pay $2,000 to win. The Pro winner will receive $750, Street will pay $200 and both Sport Compact and Motorcycle will pay $150. And with championships on the line in most of the categories, the racing is going to be intense. Everyone wants to win a Wally and the extra money is icing on the cake. And there will be no increase in entry fees."

Although Bill Dudley had clinched the Sport Compact title (his eighth Las Vegas drag racing title ¿ four in Street and four in Sport Compact), the Super Pro, Pro, Motorcycle and Street titles will go down to the wire.

Racers also will participate in a special Run-for-the-Money to benefit The Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children¿s Charities.
