Run-for-the-Kids to benefit Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities

Oct. 2 at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Drag racers competing in the Jerry's Nugget Championship Drag Racing Series and the Short Line Express Markets NHRA Jr. Dragster Series at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will participate in a special Run-for-the-Kids on Friday, Oct. 2, to benefit The Las Vegas Chapter of Speedweay Children's Charities.

Racers will pay an entry fee to participate and all entry fees will be donated to Speedway Children's Charities. Racers will competer for prizes donated by sponsors. The second annual event is presented by Sharp Plumbing, Silverado Plastering and TAZ Racing and is sponsored by Jeg's Mail Order, Mario Andretti Driving School, Injury Care of Nevada, Earl's Transmission Service, S&C Claims Service, Gugino Law Firm and JDBC Investments.

Drivers will predict (a.k.a. dial-in) their elapsed time (E.T.) prior to competition and the racer who comes closest to their dial-in will win. In the event of ties, the racer with the best package (combination of dial-in and reaction time) will be declared the winner.

Speedway Children's Charities (www.speedwaycharities.org is a non-profit foundation based in Charlotte, N.C., that distributes funds to charities and foundations providing medical, emotional and social services to children in need. Founded in 1984 by O. Bruton Smith, chief executive officer of Speedway Motorsports, Inc., Speedway Children's Charities has grown into a national foundation with chapters located at each of the six Speedway Motorsports Inc., facilities, including Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway, Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C., Texas Motor Speedway in Dallas-Ft. Worth and Atlanta Motor Speedway. Each chapter's objective is to assist as many children as possible.

Last December, The Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities granted $250,000 to 41 local child-related causes.
