2005 Nitro Blast-off at Jan. 21-23 at The Strip at LVMS:

Preseason test session for NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series teams;

Top Comp Association qualifying and eliminations

 

Some of the biggest names in professional drag racing will converge on The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Jan. 21-23 for the annual Nitro Blast-off.  This three-day test session for NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series and Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series affords pro teams an opportunity to fine-tune their cars and motorcycles prior to the Feb. 10-13 season-opener at Pomona, Calif.

 

Teams set to participate include: 14-time NHRA Funny Car champion John Force, Ashley Force, Eric Medlen, Gary Densham and Tommy Johnson Jr.

 

The three-day session is open to the public (see admission prices below) and drag-racing fans can get a sneak peek at the cars and stars of the 2005 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.

 

Thursday, Jan. 20

10 a.m. -- Credential sales open, pit parking.

Noon -- Tech inspection.

5 p.m. -- Credential sales closed.

 

Friday, Jan. 21

6 a.m. -- Racer gates open.

8 a.m. -- Spectator gates open, NHRA Lucas Oil Series Sportsman testing.

10 a.m. -- First NHRA POWERade pro and Top Alcohol session.

12 p.m. -- Second NHRA POWERade pro and Top Alcohol session.

2 p.m. -- Third NHRA POWERade pro and Top Alcohol session.

4 p.m. -- Fourth NHRA POWERade pro and Top Alcohol session.

6 p.m. -- Track closed.

 

Saturday, Jan. 22

6 a.m. -- Racer gates open.

8 a.m. -- Spectator gates open, NHRA Lucas Oil Series Sportsman testing.

9 a.m. -- First Top Comp Association qualifying session.

10 a.m. -- First NHRA POWERade pro and Top Alcohol session.

11 a.m. -- Second  Top Comp Association qualifying session.

Noon -- Second NHRA POWERade pro and Top Alcohol session.

1 p.m. -- Third Top Comp Association qualifying session.

2 p.m. -- Third NHRA POWERade pro and Top Alcohol session.

3 p.m. -- Top Comp Association eliminations.

4 p.m. -- Fourth NHRA POWERade pro and Top Alcohol session.

7 p.m. -- Track closed.

 

Sunday, Jan. 23

6 a.m. -- Racer gates open.

8 a.m. -- Spectator gates open, NHRA Lucas Oil Series Sportsman testing.

9 a.m. -- First Top Comp Association qualifying session.

10 a.m. -- First NHRA POWERade pro and Top Alcohol session.

11 a.m. -- Second Top Comp Association qualifying session.

1 p.m. -- Top Comp Association eliminations.

2 p.m. -- Third NHRA POWERade pro and Top Alcohol session.

4 p.m. -- Final NHRA POWERade pro and Top Alcohol session.

Racer fees:

NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series and Top Alcohol three-day test fee (car and driver) -- includes five crew passes: $750.

Lucas Oil Sportsman three-day test fee (car and driver): $250.

NHRA POWERade pro and Top Alcohol single-day test fee (car and driver): $300.

Lucas Oil Sportsman single-day test fee (car and driver): $100.

Weekend crew pass (restricted area): $50.

Single-day cew pass (restricted area): $25.

 

Eligible classes:

NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series and Top Alcohol: Top Fuel Dragster, Funny Car, Pro Stock, Pro Stock Bike, Pro Modified, Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car.

Lucas Oil Sportsman classes:    Competition Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Super Eliminator and Top Comp.

Participants from other classes and/or sanctioning bodies are not eligible to participate in this event. An open test session for all cars, all classes and all sanctioning groups will be held on February 4-6, 2005.

 

Spectator Admission (Nevada entertainment tax included):

Adult, single day: $20.

Adult, three-day Super Pass: $50.

Kids (6-12 years old), single day: $6.

Kids (6-12 years old) Super Pass: $12.

Senior citizens, military, high school -- single day: $15

Kids 6 & under: free.
