The NHRA Sport Compact Series returns to The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend for the third annual NHRA Las Vegas Sport Compact Nationals Sept. 9 and 10.  The nighttime lifestyle event begins both evenings at 6 p.m.
While the centerpiece of the two-day show is professional drag racing for import and domestic sport compact cars, it also is a lifestyle event featuring the SONY Xplod Stylefest, Modified Magazine $1,000-to-win Bikini Jam, the NHRA Xtreme Tuner Car Show Presented By Euro Entertainment, the NHRA Sound Challenge (for car stereo systems), a large manufacturers midway and extreme sports exhibitions.   The event will be tape-delay televised on ESPN2.
Headline classes for professional NHRA Sport Compact drag racing include: Pro RWD, Pro FWD, Modified, Hot Rod and Honda Tuning Magazine All Motor.
Last year's winners at The Strip include: Stephan Papadakis (Pro RWD), Nelson Hoyos (Pro FWD), Carlos Gonzalez Sr. (Modified), Marty Ladwig (Hot Rod) and Scott Mohler (Honda Tuning Magazine All Motor).
The weekend kicks off with the ninth edition of Thursday Night Street Wars, a popular race night aimed at serious street racers in an effort to attract them to the safe confines of The Strip at LVMS.
Qualifying begins on Friday evening at 6 p.m., followed by BFGoodrich Midnight Mayhem.
