Bernstein looking to regain magic of past NHRA victories at The Strip at LVMS

Second-generation Top Fuel Dragster driver Brandon Bernstein is no stranger to success at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Bernstein and his legendary father Kenny made NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series history in 2001 at The Strip when they became the first father-son duo to win at the same national event (Top Fuel Dragster and Top Alcohol Dragster).

Now with father Kenny as team owner and Brandon behind the wheel, both are hoping for more success at the seventh annual NHRA SummitRacing.com Nationals April 6-9 at LVMS.

This year will mark Brandon's fourth appearance in the event as the pilot of the nitro-powered Budweiser/Lucas Oil dragster. He and the members of the Kenny Bernstein-owned team hope that Lady Luck drops by during Sunday's eliminations.

"We've had a slow start this season," said Brandon.  "We had some crazy, unexpected parts breakage in the first rounds of the first two events, so we need some of that Vegas luck that our family has had in the past."

"We've had some good numbers in qualifying, but it seems on race day, we're blindsided by mechanical gremlins.  We have a very talented team and we're capable of winning. We are all ready to go some rounds on Sunday."

Bernstein hopes that the success his father's had at LVMS as a driver in the past, winning the event in 2000 and 2001, will carry over to the team this year.

"Dad did really well in Vegas during his career.  Tim (Richards, crew chief), Kim (Richards) and the team know how to tune our Budweiser/Lucas Oil dragster to run the table here. By that I mean qualify No. 1, set low elapsed time, top speed, and win the event.  They've done it before.  It would be a huge morale boost for everyone, especially for all those on the team that have dedicated so many hours and burned the midnight oil to help us get back in the groove."
