Citing the unprecedented success of this past weekend's NHRA ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals, Las Vegas Motor Speedway and NHRA officials have agreed to keep the event on the last weekend of October. Next year's event will be held Oct. 25-28.  It had been previously announced that the event would be Oct. 18-21.

The ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals marks the second of two NHRA national events at the Strip at LVMS in 2007. The NHRA Nationals remains set for April 12-15.

"There were several factors that helped us come to this decision with NHRA," said Chris Powell, general manager of LVMS.  "The Nevada Day holiday on Friday, the SEMA show in town the following week, the likelihood of great weather in late October - we just thought it made sense to keep the same weekend next year.  After discussing this past weekend's success with (NHRA president) Tom Compton, we agreed to stay on the final weekend in October."

The Las Vegas event next year will run back-to-back with the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Nationals in Pomona, Calif., on the first weekend in November.

"We believe this move will further establish this event as one of the largest and fastest growing on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series circuit," said Tom Compton, NHRA president.

Next year's ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals will be a pivotal event in the NHRA's new championship format - Countdown to the Championship. The top four competitors in each of the NHRA's four professional categories will begin a two-race shootout in Las Vegas to determine the world champion.
