Some of the biggest names in professional drag racing will test at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Oct. 16-18 in preparation for the Oct. 25-28 NHRA ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals.  The largest contingent will come from one team: Don Schumacher Racing (DSR).  The former Funny Car driver-turned-team owner is sending a formidable line-up to practice for the big meet: Funny Car drivers Gary Scelzi, Ron Capps, Jack Beckman and Top Fuel Dragster champion Tony Schumacher.

Scelzi has scored four victories this season, including the Oct. 7 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series event at Richmond, Va.

"It's always exciting go to Vegas because it's such a well-prepared race track," said Scelzi, who drives the Mopar/Oakley Dodge Charger R/T for DSR. "They've got great safety people on staff. They're self-contained. And the race track is killer, so we're always excited about going to Vegas. And there's always a little entertainment in the evening. That makes it even better."

Scelzi, whose nickname is "Wild Thing," often is a call-in guest on the Bubba The Love Sponge Show on SIRIUS satellite radio, and the shock jock host plans to join Gary and professional wrestling icon Hulk Hogan (tapped by ACDelco to serve as Grand Marshal for the event) at the next-to-last 2007 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series spectacular.

Scelzi's teammate, Ron Capps, promises to have a surprise for drag racing fans at the NHRA ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals.

"It's going to be a great opportunity with the race coming up (In Vegas) to be able to come out to Vegas and test. The Strip is a track where we can always test and learn. It's one of the few tracks where the track is prepped as good as the NHRA Safety Safari preps an NHRA event. Preseason testing is always great there, but I feel really excited, with all the drama of us getting into the Countdown at the last minute in Virginia, to be able to run three days in Vegas.

"We'll be able to try some new things on the Brut Dodge that Ace (crew chief Ed McCulloch) wants to try, and I'd like to try some things that I've been doing differently. It's a great opportunity to do that without being under the pressure of the race."

Scheduled to share the track with DSR entries are Funny Car drivers Robert Hight and Tony Pedregon, in addition to the Pro Stock teams of Greg Anderson and Jason Line.
