The heart-pounding action of the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series heads to The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the first of two scheduled stops in 2012 for the 13th annual NHRA SummitRacing.comNationals, March 30-April 1, and Funny Car driver Ron Capps couldn’t be more excited about heading to Sin City.

“Vegas is one of my five favorite race tracks and they’re all the tracks built by Bruton Smith,” Capps said. “Vegas is always fun, but nothing is more fun than winning on Sunday.”

Capps knows what it’s like to have success at The Strip at LVMS. He won the event in 2009 and has earned two other victories at the track. The charismatic Funny Car driver is looking to continue the success his NAPA Auto Parts Dodge Charger had the last time the NHRA was in Las Vegas.

“One of my proudest moments in NHRA drag racing was when our NAPA team came back to win at Las Vegas the week after we didn’t qualify in Phoenix,” Capps said.  “That was so disappointing, but ‘The General’ (crew chief Tim Richards) wouldn’t let us get down. We went to Vegas qualified number one and the NAPA AUTO PARTS Dodge was flawless on Sunday. I can’t wait to go out there and try to do it again.”

Capps, along with many other stars of the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series will start race week on Thursday, March 29 with the Las Vegas Fan Fest on the Brooklyn Bridge at the New York-New York Hotel & Casino. There will be more than 25 Full Throttle drivers attending the popular Fan Fest that is held right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the Las Vegas Strip, including all seven Don Schumacher Racing drivers and the Summit Racing duo of Greg Anderson and Jason Line.

The party will be hosted by Team Full Throttle and starts at 5 p.m. with autographs at 6 p.m. The first 200 fans in line for the Fan Fest autograph session will receive a hat courtesy of Summit Racing Equipment.

NHRA Screamin’ Eagle Nitro Harley-Davidsons will be featured throughout the race weekend with exhibition runs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The high-powered, nitromethane-fueled Nitro Harleys can reach speeds of more than 200 mph and are always a huge hit with fans.

As always, fans will have the opportunity to interact with their favorite drivers and experience the interactive NHRA Nitro Alley since every ticket is a pit pass.
