Champ Car teams set to test at LVMS on Wednesday

Just three days after winding through the streets of Denver, the stars of the Champ Car World Series will run their fastest speeds of the year during a one-day test session today at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Fifteen of the 18 Champ Car teams are set to test today in preparation for the Champ Car event scheduled as part of the Double Down in the Desert on Sept. 25. The 400-kilometer Champ Car event will follow the Las Vegas 350 NASCAR Craftsman Truck event.

The test will run from 2-10 p.m., and the speedway¿s grandstands will be open to the public free of charge.

Among the drivers scheduled to test are four Las Vegas residents. Defending series champion Paul Tracy, Tracy¿s teammate Patrick Carpentier, veteran racer Jimmy Vasser and Alex Tagliani will all take part in the test at their ¿home¿ track.

¿This is going to be an important test for all the teams,¿ Vasser said. ¿Once this race was added to the schedule, we have an aerodynamic package that we are all a little unsure of. Plus, most of these drivers have never even seen the track.¿

In addition, series point leader Sebastien Bourdais, who has five wins including Sunday¿s victory in the Grand Prix of Denver, also will take part in the one-day test. The only drivers not expected for the test are Dale Coyne drivers Oriol Servia and Gaston Mazzacane as well as A.J. Allmendinger.
