NASCAR Busch Series Rookie of the Year candidate Burney Lamar had the type of success that any racer would wish for in his first race. Now, with a second-place finish in Daytona, Lamar is hoping that success will follow him to the Sam's Town 300 on March 11 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Lamar, who will race a full Busch Series season for the No. 77 car owned by Kevin Harvick Inc., said he thought this day would never come. "If you could picture three years ago, I was sitting at home watching this kind of stuff on the couch, begging just to get any kind of experience in any kind of heavy car," Lamar said. "And then all of a sudden to actually drive for Kevin and DeLana; It doesn't get better than that." Though a rookie, Lamar has already proven himself of worth, not only to his team, but to the drivers that surround him. Fellow Kevin Harvick Inc. driver Ron Hornaday said that during testing earlier this month at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, he could see exactly what Lamar had to offer. "Testing went really well for both Burney and myself out (at LVMS)," said Hornaday. "Burney has already proven himself to be a talented driver, he's obviously listed really well, and his performance at Daytona only proved that." Lamar says that he's excited to race at LVMS, but admits that pre-race jitters will still be something he'll have to overcome. "I know we have good equipment," Lamar said. "Once I just calm down and get used to what I need to feel, you know, it's a completely different car than I've ever driven before. But I can't say enough for the team. Kevin and DeLana put together a championship contending team. If I can get to the level they're at, we'll have some success." You can catch Burney Lamar along with all the NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Nextel Cup Series drivers at the Sam's Town 300 on March 11, and the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 on March 12 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The March 10-12 NASCAR Weekend begins Friday with qualifying for the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 and the Sam's Town 300 NASCAR Busch Series race will be Saturday, March 11.
