Las Vegas Motor Speedway's internship program provides hands-on experience in many different aspects of the marketing and promotion of auto racing events. It is an unpaid internship, and a successful internship will not necessarily translate into permanent employment; however, interns are given at least the same consideration as other candidates when job opportunities arise. These are unpaid positions.

Internship Qualifications

College Level Student - B.A., B.S. or majoring in mass communications, journalism, communications, marketing, graphics art, public relations or related field.

Intern Duties

  • Help write race event releases, stats, notes and features
  • Work in the media center during race events; help the media with any questions or requests they have
  • Help plan media events
  • Brainstorm and research for interesting, off-beat notes to be used at race times
  • Help compile story ideas and bio information for race programs
  • Help compile race release ideas
  • Assist in writing race releases
  • Assist the Public Relations Coordinator in maintenance of LVMS web site
  • Aid in creation of advertising, brochures and other collateral materials
  • Brainstorm advertising ideas
  • Assist in day-to-day operations. This may involve making phone calls, working with local media, industry contacts and media partners
  • Help schedule and execute promotions
  • Work with social networking including contests, giveaways, etc.
  • Community Outreach. Visit area businesses and create promotional partnerships/relationships to help promote LVMS and its events
  • Assist in any Speedway Children’s Charities promotions and/or events

LVMS Goodwill Ambassador Job Description:

Part Time/Major Events

Starting Pay: $9.00/hr

LVMS is looking for fun, energetic and friendly people who want to join our team as a goodwill ambassador!  If you enjoy racing and are ready to work hard and have fun while doing it, then this is a position for you.

This position is largely a customer service role with emphasis on customer interaction.  Applicant will be required to interact with the guests and must be able to answer questions effectively and efficiently.  Roles and responsibilities determined by event.

Basic Job Duties - Grandstands:

  • Follow instructions provided by Operations Assistant at the beginning of each shift.
  • Roam within the section of the grandstands you are assigned.
  • Must remain visible to fans at all times.
  • Ensure visitors, media, and invited guests obey LVMS rules and policies. In the event of infractions of LVMS rules and policies, inform supervisor of the infraction and parties involved.
  • Applicant will be on their feet the majority of the shift.
  • Interact with customers to answer questions or instruct them of LVMS policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Job Duties – Hot line:

  • Follow instructions provided by Fan Assistance supervisors at the beginning of each shift.
  • Answer incoming calls in a timely manner.
  • Interact with customers to answer questions or instruct them of LVMS policies.
  • Give answers that are clear, correct and in a friendly manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Able to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time (most posts require walking for the length of shift).
  • Able to fluently speak and comprehend the English language (includes being an active listener).
  • Able to interact with visitors and guests and maintain positive customer service standards.
  • Able to learn, maintain, and enforce LVMS policies and procedures and general Public Safety efforts to maintain safe events.
  • Able to remain attentive, observant, and monitor surroundings with critical thinking and problem sensitivity in order to perform tasks and maintain safe events.
  • Able to negotiate, resolve, and avoid potential conflicts with emotional control.
  • Able to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with peers, coworkers, supervisors, and patrons.
  • Able to accept direction from others including supervisors.
  • Must possess reliable transportation to/from workplace.
