Martin Truex Jr. has been the class of the field in the NASCAR Busch Series the past two seasons. Now, it's time to take a step up. The two-time Busch Series champion is looking to place his name on the Nextel Cup rookie of the year trophy this season. The Jan. 30-Feb. 1 NASCAR Preseason Thunder Las Vegas will be an important test session for the rookie contender. Truex will join more than 40 other Nextel Cup drivers who will test at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in preparation for the March 12 UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400. "We won 12 races and two Busch Series Championships (at DEI) and the chemistry between all of us is incredible," Truex said. "The only difference is we've gone from a championship Busch team to a rookie Cup team." Truex says that testing at LVMS will not only help the team prepare for the race here, but also many other tracks on the NASCAR circuit. "This practice will hopefully be a good measure as to what we can transfer to the other tracks we race on just like this one," said Truex. "If we have a good test session, we expect to come back here and have a good race." Truex has struggled in both of his Busch starts at LVMS finishing 16th in this past year's Sam's Town 300 and 14th in 2004. LVMS' grandstands will be open free to the public for the three-day test. Tickets for the March 10-12 NASCAR Weekend are available through the speedway ticket office at 1-800-644-4444 or online at www.lvms.com.
