Many people still wonder why NASCAR Nextel Cup Series driver Kurt Busch decided to leave his Roush Racing team only a year after winning the Nextel Cup. And while Sunday's 38th-place finish in the Daytona 500 didn't allow for a show-stopping debut with his new team, the Las Vegas native is looking forward to the rest of the season with his new team. He's especially looking forward to the March 12 UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 at his hometown speedway. "What made me want to go (to Penske) was just the sheer determination to go to victory lane that you could see from Ryan Newman, but mainly from Roger Penske," said Busch, who moved from Roush Racing to Penske Racing for the 2006 season. "The relationship we've developed over the last few years has turned into a great relationship." That relationship has been shown on and off the track. Busch and Penske spent the time in between the Las Vegas Motor Speedway test session and Daytona week at the Super Bowl. "Having that relationship with a car owner, that's really what drove me to make that decision," said Busch. "But when it gets down to the bottom line, I've got to look at where Kurt Busch can go and win races. I believe with Penske and Dodge, I can go do that far more into the future." And Busch found the success at testing he was looking for. The third-place finisher in the 2005 UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 posted the third fastest time during the Feb. 1 test session at LVMS with a speed of 169.694 mph. Busch says it's runs like these that make him even happier to be were he is. "Honestly, I'm just happy to be here, to get a fresh start, to move forward," said Busch. "What Penske Racing can offer me, the chance to drive the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge, is the opportunity of a lifetime." Busch and 50 fellow NASCAR Nextel Cup Series drivers are expected to enter the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 on March 12, 2006 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The March 10-12 NASCAR Weekend begins Friday with qualifying for the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 and the Sam's Town 300 NASCAR Busch Series race will be Saturday, March 11. The World of Outlaws will compete March 9-10 at the half-mile dirt track. To purchase tickets to all of the weekend's events call the LVMS ticket office at (800) 644-4444 or log on to
