Las Vegas Motor Speedway has been selected one of the world's top 10 speedways in the launch issue of Professional Motorsport World magazine. The publication, which is based in the United Kingdom, is aimed at the business side of the motorsports industry. "We are very proud and humbled to be recognized by this international publication," said Chris Powell, LVMS general manager. "Each year, we continue to make improvements to the speedway, and we hope that each year it gets better for the fans, officials and competitors." LVMS is undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation plan that will increase the banking of the superspeedway, move pit road closer to the race fans, create a new fan-interactive garage area for the Nextel Cup teams and provide a new media center. This construction project helped vault the speedway into this elite list. "Just like one of the casinos on the Strip, youth is no barrier to construction at LVMS," the magazine wrote. The magazine also cited the recently opened Richard Petty Terrace as another reason for the speedway's selection to the list. Watkins Glen is the only other United States facility to make the list. LVMS was joined on the list with such legendary facilities as Brands Hatch (United Kingdom), Ricardo Tormo (Spain), and Nurburgring (Germany). "We will put our speedway up against any in the world," Powell said. "In addition to the superspeedway and dragway, we have close to a dozen other tracks including a paved 3/8-mile oval, half-mile dirt track and various road courses. We believe Las Vegas Motor Speedway is the world's most diverse racing facility."
