Chevrolet driver Casey Mears turned in the fastest lap during the afternoon - and final - session of the NASCAR Busch Series testing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (29.685 sec./181.910 mph).  Paul Menard's best lap of 29.603 sec./182.414 mph, set during this morning's session, stands as the fastest lap overall since testing began Monday morning.

The next time the NASCAR Busch Series cars will see Las Vegas Motor Speedway will be the Sam's Town 300 on March 10.

Indy Racing League driver Sam Hornish Jr. was on hand to test the No. 12 Team Penske Dodge in the afternoon session.  The three-time IndyCar champion and 2006 Indianapolis 500 winner was impressed with LVMS' new configuration.

"The track is fast and a lot of fun.  The bumps down in Turns 1 and 2 make it pretty interesting.  I think it's going to be a great place for a race."

Hornish's best lap of the day was 30.262 sec./178.442 mph, good for 16th place in the Tuesday afternoon standings.

"It (testing) went pretty good.  We made some small changes to try to figure some small things out and me get used to the track.  I wish we had more time."

The Ohio native has earned 17 IRL victories and has been driving open-wheel cars for Roger Penske since 2003.  When asked why he was at LVMS to test a NASCAR Busch Series car, Sam replied, "It's something that over the past three years Roger (Penske) and I talked about doing.  It was a possibility when I first came over to Penske Racing.  We thought that with the success I had on ovals it would be a good fit to try it out.  I think what finally pushed the button and (got me to do this) was the lack of testing we're allowed to do in the IRL.  I've been in the car twice since last September.  If you're not a rookie, or a member of an IPS team, which is the Busch Series of the IRL, you don't get any extra testing days.  As far as keeping your mind and your eye-hand coordination in order, we thought this was a good idea - to try to move forward and make us better."

Hornish was asked what it was like to go from an IRL car to a NASCAR Busch Series machine.

"Coming into today, I thought, 'well, you're going to run 50 mph average slower,' and that it was going to feel slow, but it doesn't.  You're on the edge and any time you're on the edge it doesn't matter if you're riding a bicycle or in an Indy car or in a fighter plane, you're still right there on the limit of what it can do."

Drivers who crashed today included: Brian Conz, Kevin Hamlin and Todd Kluever.  No injuries were sustained.
