LAS VEGAS – This Saturday night, the Bullring at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway returns to action in a salute to Las Vegas’ original short track, Craig Road Speedway, as part of “Throwback Night” at the fast 3/8-mile paved oval in a complete short-track racing program beginning at 7 p.m.

Two months ago, the popular Bullring went on a summer vacation after its popular “Night of Fire” celebration during the July 4th weekend and now brings back some of the West Coast’s best wheel-to-wheel competition with main events in seven divisions including the lightning-quick NASCAR Sigma Performance Services Pro Late Models and NASCAR Power Grand Inc. Modifieds.

A look back at the historic Craig Road Speedway, established just a few miles away from the current Bullring oval in 1966, saw many of the great West Coast stock car drivers as well as open-wheel midgets stars including legends Ray Elder, Bill Schmitt, Hershel McGriff, Jack McCoy, Jimmy Insolo and Chuck Wahl (all Winston West stock car race winners at CRS) and Sleepy Tripp, Rick Goudy, Danny McKnight, Bob Hogle and Brad Noffsinger in midgets and sprint cars.

Of course, Craig Road Speedway was a favorite local venue for some Las Vegas’ most successful drivers on the ¼-mile paved oval track with the likes of Dick Cobb, Phil Hayes, Jimmy Sanderson, Danny Pike, Tom Busch and Randy Swalwell. Swalwell won the last Craig Road Speedway main event in 1983. Current Bullring competitor Donna Gunther was a CRS regular as well.

Look for current Bullring competitors to salute the CRS days this Saturday with “old-style colors” and painted cars tributes to the track started short-track racing in the Sin City community.

The “Throwback Night” action will feature some of the best young driving talent on the West Coast as well as the top veterans in their respective seven classes in addition to the Pro Late Models and Modifieds. Other featured categories this Saturday will include the Late Model Trucks, NASCAR Nostalgia Street Rods Bombers, USCLI American Southwest Electric Legends, USCLI Bandoleros and the always-power Skid Cars.

“We are excited to return to the Bullring this Saturday after our summer layoff,” said T.J. Clark, Bullring director. “The ‘Throwback Night’ should be fun for everyone on the track and in the grandstands as we salute the original Las Vegas short track, Craig Road Speedway, and its past competitors and fans. Plus Las Vegas has a rich history of great racing talent both at Craig Road and the Bullring. We will see some great talent this Saturday with an outstanding field of cars and drivers.”

Leading that talent field this Saturday will be 15-year-old Tanner Reif of Henderson, winner of three consecutive Pro Late Models main events at the Bullring, in his No. 43 Boulder Boats stock car. Reif, the current class point leader, has been a regular on the victory podium this year with three wins and three runner-up finishes in seven races as he heads to Saturday 40-lap feature.

Reif will be matched against a outstanding field of Pro Late Model racers including Jeffrey Peterson, Bradley Erickson R.J. Smotherman, Kyle Keller, Jaron Giannini, Scott Gafforini and Johnny Spilatro.

In the fast Modifieds, multi-time track champion Doug Hamm of Las Vegas figures to be one of the contenders in his popular No. 4x machine in the 40-lap contest against the likes of Bullring main winners Justin Johnson and Kyle Jacks plus strong runners like Jonathon Mawhinney, J. Giannini, Kylie Barker, Sam Jacks and Scott Osborne.

Among the other main events this Saturday will be the touring Late Model Truck Series with a 35-lap main; USLCI American Southwest Electric Legends, featuring the M&H Building Specialists/JBM Underground “Young Guns” Bonus in a 25-lap feature; NASCAR Nostalgia Street Rods Bombers with a 25-lap final; the popular Skid Plate Cars in a 15-lap feature; USLCI Bandoleros 15-lapper and two Late Model Truck Series 6-lap heat races.

The “Throwback Night” at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is a great, affordable evening for the whole family as well friendly concession prices. Tickets are available by calling 702.644.4444 or online at LVMS.com, and children (age 12 and under) get in free with a ticketed adult.
