Local racers got a special opportunity to thank their mothers Saturday night at the Bullring at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and several of them actually did it twice in victory lane.

In the annual Mothers Appreciation Night at the fast 3/8-mile paved oval north of the famed Las Vegas Strip, Round Five of the popular Star Nursery Short Track Series was a busy evening for the local and traveling drivers with multiple main events in numerous classes.

When the dust cleared on a windy night, there were ten feature winners thanking their moms in the winner’s circle, collecting some hardware and celebrating with their families and race teams.

The most proficient winner was local star Kyle Keller of Las Vegas, who returned to Bullring NASCAR Pro Late Model action after competing regularly on the ARCA Menards West stock car circuit. Keller, an early season main event winner at the Bullring, came back in style with double 40-lap victories in his No. 12 Battleborn Racing machine.

The wins were especially meaningful for Keller as he saluted his late uncle, John Keller, who passed away recently and helped Kyle with his motorsports career.

In the opening Pro Late Model event, Keller, the division’s fastest qualifier, jumped to the lead at the green flag and basically never looked back. Early contender Amilleo Thomson had to retire from the race on lap nine and Keller took the victory over Jared Giannini, Gavin Ray, Colton Ray, Ashton Leonard and Kylie Ith.

Keller had to work hard for his second triumph of the night, as he came from the eighth starting position and had to track down, Ith, the teenage lady racer from Utah, who set a strong pace in the lead. Ith led for 33 of 40 laps before Keller was able make the lead pass in turn one on lap 35. Ith held her ground and finished runner-up, just two car lengths from Keller. Third went to Giannini followed by C. Ray, G. Ray, T.J. Roberts and Leonard.

“I’m going to get emotional tonight after my uncle John recently passed away,” said Keller after the first feature. “I dedicate this win to him. He helped me during my career, and we are all thinking of him tonight. My Battleborn Racing car felt good, a little loose at times, but they always get me a strong machine. It’s great to come back to my home track and race in front of friends, family and all of the Bullring fans.”

Also, a double winner Saturday at the Bullring was another female teenage driver from Utah, 14-year-old Siena Nuccitelli, won captured both 12-lap USLCI M&H Building Specialists/JBM Underground Bandoleros mains in her colorful No. 86 machine. Nuccitelli, from St. George, UT, stormed to the front of the ten-car Bando field and took both checkered flag in impressive style. The high school freshman, who sports pink and purple on her race car and firesuit, says she is huge “Barbie” fan and plans to name her race car, the “Barbie” car!

In the first Bando event, Nuccitelli defeated point leader James Trimmer of Las Vegas followed by Peyton Harbison, Leila Trimmer, Wyatt Layne, Tucker Webster and Maryah Solomon.

In round two, it was Nuccitelli taking the win over Layne, L. Trimmer, Webster, Dylan Layne, Solomon, Harbison, J. Trimmer, Elizabeth MacKenzie and Maison Albright.

“This is so exciting to take my car to victory lane tonight,” said Nuccitelli. “My dad and my brother race in the Factory Outlaws and I get to race in the Bandoleros. We have a lot of fun competing here at the Bullring. It’s a family affair. I want to definitely thank my mom too. She is my biggest supporter in my racing. It’s so cool to win.”

In Friday’s USLCI M&H Building Specialists/JBM Underground Bandolero mains, Harbison and J. Trimmer took the top honors.

Another local teenager who is familiar with the Bullring winner’s circle took his mount to the checkered flag and checkered victory lane in the USLCI M&H Building Specialists/JBM Underground Legend Cars.

Las Vegas’ Cody Brown battled some tough contenders in the 25-lap finale with a win over Stephen Brucker of El Cajon, CA, Jimmy Sloan of Indio, CA, Brendan Tracy of Las Vegas, Sean Salazar of Albuquerque, NM, and Andy Hulcy of Plano, TX. The former USLCI National Legend Car champion, Brown fought off Brucker’s continued challenges throughout the 25 laps before taking another Bullring trophy.

“I’m very happy to be back in the winner’s circle at the Bullring, my home track,” said Brown. “And I want salute my mom on Mothers’ Day Night as well as my dad and the whole racing team. I know Stephen was right there on my rear bumper throughout the race, and I have to hit my marks and run a solid race. Thanks to everyone who came to watch us compete tonight.”

Brucker, the season regular traveling from the San Diego area, scored his first USLCI M&H Building Specialists/JBM Underground Legend Car main event at the Bullring by defeating Brown, Tracy, Salazar, Hulcy, Keller Meechudhone, Scott Harbison, Sloan, Ellie Brucker and Bruce Silver.

In the Friday USLCI M&H Building Specialists/JBM Underground Legend Car finals, Brucker won the two 20-lap Young Lions, while local youngster and ARCA Menards West regular Tyler Reif captured the two 25-lapper for the Pro/Master class.

In the 35-lap NASCAR 602 Modifieds contest, it was another sensational performance by local racer Kyle Jacks who drove wire to wire his No. 41 Battleborn Racing car.  It was a busy day for the Jacks brothers who attended their sister’s wedding in the afternoon and barely made qualifications.

Jacks, who won last month’s Modified main event at the Bullring, was on rails with his race car as he held off any possible pressure from the nine-time Bullring track champion Doug Hamm. Hamm, who had to change engines in his popular No. 4X before the feature, had to settle for runner-up followed by Ben Williams, Robby Clutts, Brian Williams, Sam Jack and Scott Ozborn.

“This car has been strong this year and I couldn’t ask for better crew to work on it,” said K. Jacks. “It was a busy day for us with my sister’s wedding. Our mom is usually here at the Bullring, but she was plenty busy with the wedding. I want to thank her for all of her support of our racing on Mothers Night. It feels good to keep the winning going here against great drivers like Doug.”

The wild and crazy Skid Plate cars put on another great show Saturday night with 14 cars battling for the coveted victory lane. In the opening six-lap dash, Greg Lee, a multi-time feature winner, drove consistently to the front and took another win with his new X car. Taking second was former main event winner Ed Shoemaker with Dylan Hummel rounding out the podium.

In the 12-lap Skip Plate finale, it was Jeff Dailey, debuting in Cindy Clark’s old Wonder Women red, white and blue car, scoring a dominating win with the No. 83 machine with second going to Lee and third to former track champion Ben Williams followed by Hummel, Shoemaker, Christina Harper, Rich McMahon, Greg Matta and Ken Coombs.

It was a dominating performance in the 25-lap Nostalgia Street Rods Outlaws Factory Stocks final for Vinny Raucci, as the local driver jumped to the lead in turn one and scooted away from the rest of the field. Trailing Raucci was Michael Miller and Jacob Quartaro in a spirited battle for the runner-up spot. Fourth and fifth went to Rob Pfaffly and Nick Lautenbach followed by Pete Meyer, Nick Nuccitelli and Ryan Perkins.

The two 8-lap lap Nostalgia Street Rods Outlaws Factory Stocks heat races went to Raucci and Miller earlier in the evening.

Young Colton Ray, a third-generation driver at the Bullring, drove from a fifth starting slot, chased down leader Jason Kiser and took the top spot on lap 21 for another 25-lap Super Stock main event win. Ray, the current Super Stock point leader, fought his way through the field to begin his trek on Kiser for the lead, and the 15-year-old moved his machine to the bumper of Kiser’s car by lap 15. Then Colton made a nice maneuver inside in turn one for the advantage and victory.

NEXT RACE: The 2024 Star Nursery Series at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway comes back on Saturday, June 15, for the “Military and Veteran’s Appreciation” Night featuring Pro Late Models, Modifieds, Legend cars, Factory Outlaw Stocks, Super Stocks and Bandoleros plus the popular Skid Plate cars.
