It was a Jacks Brothers celebration in victory lane Saturday as part of the popular “Throwback Night” in round four of the Star Nursery Series at the fast 3/8-mile Bullring at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

With action including two NASCAR 602 Modified main events in the racing program, Kyle and Sam Jacks left little doubt with their Battleborn Racing machines when the racing was finished at the famed paved oval south of the LVMS Super Speedway.

Taking on a legend in nine-time track champion Doug Hamm, the two local boys came out strong from the hot lap sessions and never looked back. It was Kyle, in the multi-race winning No. 41 car, who dominated the practice and qualifying rounds before the first of two features opening the night’s on-track festivities.

After setting quick time, K. Jacks started on the pole next to the “Hound Dog” Hamm but never really gave Doug a chance at the drop of the green flag. Hamm attempted to apply pressure to the leader in the early portion of the 25-lapper. But Jacks pulled away for the wire-to-wire win over Hamm, S. Jacks, Brian Williams and Ben Williams.

“We knew we had a fast race car tonight,” said K. Jacks. “We have been working a lot of getting the car to handle and hook up better with each race. We came out of the box strong with hot laps and qualifying. I just wanted to be consistent and hit the marks on every lap. I want to thank our Battleborn Racing crew and everyone who helps on our program. We went to salute them tonight.”

In the second 602 Modified finale, it was Sam Jacks, in his Battleborn Racing No. 29, running away with an impressive strong early pace despite some caution flags in the first five laps. By the tenth circuit, the Jacks brothers fought for the lead, but Sam’s machine was running well, and Kyle had to settle for the runner-up spot at the checkered flag. Hamm came from behind to take third followed by David Boardman, Ben Williams, Brian Williams, Brian Reed and Scott Ozborn.

“I knew Kyle was there and he was trying hard to slide by for the lead,” said S. Jacks. “But he knows I’ll rub on him too if I have to. Once we got in a rhythm and I got the car in a consistent pace, we had the car to win tonight. The Battleborn Racing has given us a couple of strong machines tonight. Kyle and I always talk about setups and how to improve our cars. I think our ideas are working.”

In the fast Pro Late Model main event, it was young Amilleo Thomson scoring his fourth Bullring feature of the year in the fast No. 14 Star Nursery stock car. Assisted by the spotting and coaching of former Bullring champion Chris Clyne, Thomson has been the driver to beat in 2024 and Saturday night was different with being quickest in practice and qualifying.

A wild start to the 45-lapper saw three cars get together in turns one and turn and a halt to the action. On the restart, Thomson and Bullring regular Jaron Giannini went nose-to-tail for the first 20 laps and swapped the lead several times before Thomson drove away from the field.

The racing for second-third-fourth was sensational with youngsters Colton Ray, T.J. Roberts and Giannini battling wheel-to-wheel. At the finish, it was Thomson followed by C. Ray, Roberts, Giannini, former Bullring track champions Scott Gafforini and Mark Allison. Gavin Ray, David Anderson, Johnny Spilotro and Dave Campoverde completed the top ten Saturday night.

“We had a very good Star Nursery car tonight,” said Thomson after the race. “I want to dedicate this win to Art Goldstrom, a big supporter of the Bullring, who passed away recently. We had a good race with Jaron early and the tires came in well. Then the car felt great, and I could drive it hard.”

Always fun to watch and some of the hardest racing at the Bullring was another stellar battle with the 25-lap USLCI M&H Building Specialists/JBM Underground Legend Car main. It was a knockdown battle at the drop of the green flag with two and three-wide action in the first several circuits. However, the red flag appeared when Jaron Giannini was hit and bounced hard into the turn three wall. Jaron jumped out of his machine okay, but he and his car were done for the night.

When the green flew again, it was a dogfight with two good friends – fast qualifier Tyler Reif and former national champion Cody Brown. The two teenagers battled tooth and nail with each holding the advantage before Reif fighting off his buddy at the checkered flag. It was Reif’s second straight Bullring win.

It was another sensational race in several areas including the battle for third with Brenden Tracy and Sean Salazar exchanging position each lap. At the checkered flag, Reif held off Brown for another Legends victory followed by Tracy, Salazar, Chase Burgeson, Bryanna Bruce, Scott Harbison, Keaton Harbison, Tanner Ash and Ashton Williams.

“That was another good race today in the Legend cars,” said Reif, who also competes on the ARCA Menards stock car series. “Cody and I race a lot like that, and we race very clean. He is one of my best friends away from the track, but we battle hard on the track. It’s always fun to come back and race on your home track. The Bullring is so fun.”

Another young local driver recorded a main event win in the Super Stocks on Saturday with 15-year-old Colton Ray taking the 20-lap over regular class winner Kyle Jacks. Starting sixth in his No. 18 machine, the high school sophomore worked his way to second by lap 12 and slowly closed in on the leader Jacks. By lap 16, Ray was on Jacks car’s rear bumper. Colton slid inside on lap 18 and drove to the checkered flag.

Taking third was former champion Jason Kiser with veterans Don Geary and Mike McKearn rounding out the top-five spots.

“This is a big win for our team,” said Ray, the current Super Stock points leader. “We have been working hard to improve the car and, when you can chase down Kyle in that No. 4, it’s a big deal. We want to keep that point lead and run for the track championship this year.”

While Ray took the lead late in his Super Stock feature, Vinny Raucci Jr. grabbed the top position early in the 25-lap NASCAR Nostalgia Street Rods Outlaw Factory Stock final with his quick No. 911 stock car as he was seeking his second consecutive Bullring win.

Coming from the seventh starting spot, Raucci jumped to the lead by lap 3 and never looked back. If he had looked in his mirror, he would have seen a great battle for second between Rob Pfaffly, Michael Miller and Jacob Quartaro. The trio swapped second numerous times before Rob “P” held them for the runner-up slot. Miller took third followed by Quartaro, Justin Cicchini, Nick Nuccitelli, Pete Meyer, Nick Lautenbach and Tuscan Nuccitelli.

In the popular Bullring Skid Plate Cars, Dylan Hummel, in only his third race, drove a smart and steady race to hold Greg Lee at the finish for his initial Bullring feature win. Third went to defending track champion Ken Coombs followed by Cameron Sorenson, Ben Williams, A.J. Hintsala, Jeff Dailey, Zach Satkowski and policeman Ed Shoemaker. Shoemaker also captured the six-lap Skid Plate Dash.

Keeping her winning ways going in the 12-lap USLCI M&H Building Specialists/JBM Underground Bandoleros main event was Aspyn Lange from Wheatland, Wyo. Lange was looking for her third straight Bandoleros feature victory Saturday, and she didn’t disappoint with a strong run in her No. 12 car. Starting from the pole after setting quick time in qualifying, Lange led all 12 laps and held off a late challenge from Peyton Harbison. Harbison had to settle for second followed by Bullring point leader James Trimmer, Leila Trimmer, Hunter Mailer, Wyatt Lange, Dylan Lange and Jeff Connors..
