In a special “Night to Remember” celebration at the Bullring Saturday night, it will definitely be one to remember for the pit area and spectators as popular Kayli Peterson drove her No. 34+2 NASCAR 602 Modified into victory lane for her first feature win at the fast 3/8-mile paved oval north of Las Vegas.

Peterson, who for years drove her Modified as Kayli Barker, started on the pole position in the 30-lap feature No. 1 Saturday and raced side-by-side with two of the favorites, Sam and Kyle Jacks, in the early portion of the main event. Peterson, with husband and former Bullring Pro Late Model track champion Jeff serving as her spotter, fought off the Jacks brothers throughout the contest.

Despite a red flag and several yellow caution periods, the Grand Terrace, Calif., racer was not to be denied as her Modified was hooked up on the low line around the Bullring racing surface. By the 25th circuit, Peterson’s mount was rolling and neither Kyle or Sam Jacks had anything for Kayli to the checkered flag.

With the checkered flag in site, the lady racer took the finish by five lengths over Kyle Jacks followed by Sam Jacks, Brian Williams, Alex Eskandari, Scott Ozborn, David Boardman, Donna Gunther, Jimmy Petrie, Ben Williams, Robby Clutts and multi-time Bullring champion Doug Hamm, whose car developed mechanical issues.

In the winner’s circle, Peterson, currently working on her doctorate in college, was emotional as her husband gave her a big hug and the crowd was yelling with their approval.

“I was mad at myself with those restarts,” said Kayli, crying during her interview. “I knew what to do but Sam and Kyle were quick on the outside. Jeff kept me aware on the radio, and I just drove my low line. I’m sorry to be so emotional, but this is my first win in the Modifieds. I have been coming to the Bullring since I was little. I grew up here since I was eight years old. On a Night to Remember, there are many to remember tonight including my friend Tyler and Scott Gafforini. Thanks to everyone for your support.”

In the “Night to Remember,” the Bullring saluted a list of major contributions to Las Vegas area short track racing who have left their mark on the local racing scene including Gafforini, Chris Trickle, Dick Cobb, Sgt. Michael Abbate, Dick Allisani, Steve Rzesnowiecky, Rich Chelberg, Mike Crisp, John Keller, Mike Henle, Chris Warren and Ray Hooper Jr.

In the second 602 Modified finale, Kyle Jacks was dominant in his fast No. 41 machine and was never really challenged in the 25-lap event. Kyle’s brother, Sam, finished second with Peterson third. Rounding out the top five were the Williams brothers, Brian and Ben.

“I had fast cars tonight with the wins in the Modifieds and Super Stocks,” said K. Jacks. “Kayli was quick in the first Modified main, and we made some adjustments for the second race. It’s so different driving the Modified and then the Super Stock. You know, every lap you learn something new in racing. I want to thank my dad for his effort on our cars. I work for him during the day and then he works with us on the cars at night. It’s a family effort.”

Earlier in the evening, K. Jacks dodged an early race incident in the 20-lap Super Stock final to drive through the field for another victory with the potent No. 4 stock car. He battled with veteran Don Geary in the middle of the race before opening up a sizable margin at the finish. Geary finished second followed by Bill Paddack Jr., Curtis Burns, Jason Kiser, Brian Pannone and Jacob Quartaro.

The 50-lap NASCAR Pro Late Model main event was a wild affair with some of the racing of the season at the front of the field with pole winner R.J. Smotherman, Cody Brown, T.J. Roberts, Johnny Spilotro and Spencer Gallagher all in the mix for the top spot. Nose to tail action was the norm in the early laps with Smotherman, Brown and Roberts all sharing the lead at one point.

Unfortunately for Spilotro, the local racer got together with Gavin Ray, and he spun into turn one. On the restart, Smotherman, Roberts and Brown continued the battle through lap 36. Brown was in contention until lap 47 when he spun his machine in turn three. At the checkered flag, it was Smotherman, Roberts, veteran Mark Allison, Ryan Pannone, and Spilotro, who fought his way back into the top five. The rest of the finish was Gallagher, Ray, Keller Meechudhone, Derik Burns, Brown, David Quartaro, David Fountain, David Anderson and Ashton Leonard.

“Cody and TJ gave my pressure all race,” said Smotherman, another young Pro Late Model star from the Las Vegas area. “I wanted to pace myself since it was 50 laps tonight. This win is good momentum going into the big ‘Night of Fire” event on July 3. I really want to win that one. This Jackson Brothers car was working very well, and I want to thank them for this win.”

Always an exciting and competitive race, the USLCI Legend Cars didn’t disappoint again on Saturday with a strong lineup of challengers with Brody Whitbeck, Gallagher, Sean Salazar, Daniel O’Donnell, Ashton Williams and Andy Hulcy. Williams grabbed the advantage early with Whitbeck right there. However, Whitbeck, a Bullring main winner this year, came together with Hulcy in turn two to hurt his chances for a feature win.

Salazar took advantage of an outside restart position and jumped to the lead. Sean continued his margin to the finish line over O’Donnell, Gallagher and Williams. Connor Podloski rounded out the top five followed by Andrew Chapman, Hulcy, Brody Glaze, Zeke Anderson, Michael Vanderlip, Ryan Ford, Ryder Juarez, Whitbeck, Chad Ingram, Alex Roe.

Another female racer joined Peterson in the winner’s circle Saturday at the Bullring with Caitlyn Ford taking another main event win in the USLCI Bandoleros 12-lap finale over Jeff Connors and defending Bullring champion James Trimmer. Fourth went to Casey Piplic followed by Brooke Ford, Dylan Mancini, Austin French, Tucker Webster, Malcolm Mancias, Mariyah Solomon, Beau Paddack, Evan Johnson, Maison Albright, Leila Trimmer, Hayden Piplic, Auroara Pfaffaly and Teagan Albright. In Friday’s USLCI Bandolero action, Ford captured the 12-lap feature with Hayden Piplic taking another win in Beginners class.

The growing Mini Stock class was a tough battle between Bullring main winner Travis Boyle and Bory Molina as they swapped the lead in the 20-lapper. Molina led early but got caught in lapped traffic and Boyle jumped to the lead. At the finish, it was Boyle, Molina and Mike McIntyre in the top three followed by A.J. Hintsala, Melissa Lurkins, Rich McMahon, Ken Coombs, Austin Tognotti, Luis Rivera, Cecilia Williams and Dylan Hummel.

The popular Skid Plate event had a twist on Saturday, as the field ran the paved oval backwards. So instead of all the drivers turning left, this week’s feature had them going to the right. That made for some wild and adventurous racing for the 12-car lineup.

Racing in only his third Skid Plate event, Chance Bourke was able to open up a gap with No. 27 machine and took the win, his first main event triumph. Second went to Austin Tognotti with third to Luis Rivera.

Rich McMahon and Greg Lee completed the top five followed by Ken Coombs, Dylan Hummel, Connor Hart, Christina Harper, Brandon Norris, Kelsey Rogers and Vinny Raucci Jr.

In the 25-lap Factory Outlaws Stocks class, Rob Pfaffly started from the pole and won the event over 2025 Bullring race winner Pete Meyer followed by Vinny Raucci Jr. Josh Quartaro, Mason Sargent, defending Bullring champion Michael Miller, Kalvin Catlin and Nick Lautenbach.

NEXT RACE: The biggest and wildest event of the year at the Bullring is the “Night of Fire” with fireworks and a variety of events around the racing action set for Thursday, July 3, including the Pro Late Models, 602 Modifieds, USLCI Legend Cars, Super Stock, Factory Outlaws, Skid Plates, Mini Stocks and Bandoleros. Adult general admission is $19.90, with children 12 & under free.
