Las Vegas Motor Speedway will welcome thousands on Sunday, October 11, as the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk comes to the Speedway for the first time.
The annual community event, which brings together breast cancer survivors, patients, caregivers, families, friends and supporters, will have a new home at Las Vegas Motor Speedway as part of a partnership between the American Cancer Society and the Speedway. The move provides the growing Southern Nevada event with additional space to bring the community together in support of those impacted by breast cancer.
Registration and event activities will begin Sunday morning at the Speedway, with the walk scheduled to begin at 8:30 AM. Participants will have the opportunity to walk together in honor of loved ones, celebrate survivors and support the American Cancer Society’s efforts to fund breast cancer research, patient services, advocacy and other resources for people facing cancer.
The walk comes a week after Las Vegas Motor Speedway partnered with the American Cancer Society and Focused Health for its annual Paint the Track Pink event on October 1. Breast cancer survivors and community members gathered at the Speedway to paint pink ribbons on the track, creating a visible tribute to those who have battled breast cancer, those currently fighting the disease and those who have lost their lives. The ribbons remained in place throughout NASCAR’s South Point 400 race weekend.
“Las Vegas Motor Speedway is proud to welcome the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk to our community,” said Patrick Lindsey, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Las Vegas Motor Speedway. “This is an incredibly meaningful event that brings together so many people who have been personally impacted by breast cancer. We’re honored to provide a new home for this important tradition and to work alongside the American Cancer Society to support survivors, families and everyone who continues to fight this disease.”
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is the American Cancer Society’s largest breast cancer fundraising movement, bringing communities together to support survivors and people living with breast cancer while raising funds for research, patient support and services. The American Cancer Society says funds raised through Making Strides help advance its mission to end breast cancer as we know it, for everyone.
Sunday’s event will mark the beginning of a new chapter for Making Strides in Southern Nevada, following more than two decades of growth in the Las Vegas community. Organizers selected Las Vegas Motor Speedway as the event’s new home to accommodate its growing participation and provide an expansive setting for the community to come together.
Community members are encouraged to register, form a team, participate in the walk, or make a donation in support of the American Cancer Society’s fight against breast cancer.
