In the penultimate event of the 2025 Bullring short track season saw more point battles closing up last Saturday night in annual “Throwback Night” at the 3/8-mile paved oval just off North Las Vegas Blvd.

And some very talented youngsters continue to put their racing machines in the Bullring Winner’s Circle.

Two 14-year-old racers were double winners Saturday with Bakersfield’s Taylor Mayhew winning the two USLCI Legend Cars 25-lap features and Caitlyn Ford of Las Vegas scoring two main event victories in the INEZ Bandoleros 12-lap events. Mayhew and Ford also won events in Friday’s action.

Meanwhile, victories for Sam Jacks, Michael Miller and Don Geary have put them in position to fight for the coveted 10-race season championships when the Bullring finale comes in two weeks on Saturday, Oct. 18. In addition, the popular Skid Plate points have just six separating Greg Lee and Dyle Hummel.

Mayhew, the talented teenager who also competes in the West Coast Pro Late Model tour, fought off veteran Scott Anderson with his No. 17 M 3rd Gen/MMI machine to take an impressive main event win in the first of two USLCI Legend Car 25-lappers. Anderson battled with youngsters Brendan Tracy, Sean Salazar and Matteo Papis, son of former IndyCar star Max Papis.

“The competition level with Legend Cars at the Bullring is very good,” said Mayhew. “This is one of the best West Coast tracks for these cars and the racing is really hard. We are preparing for the Legends Nationals later this month and tonight’s wins help that preparation. Payton Saxton and the 3rd Gen guys do a tremendous job getting this No. 17M car ready. And I have to thank them for their assistance. That 32 car (Scott Anderson) is tough, and we had a good battle.”

In the second USLCI contest, it was a three-car battle with Mayhew, Anderson and Papis trading position at the front of the field. But, in the last few circuits, Taylor was able to open up his advantage over Papis after Anderson dropped off with mechanical issues. Tracy took the podium position again with a second third place followed by Bullring point leader Salazar, 2025 Bullring feature winner Brody Whitbeck, Spencer Gallagher and Daniel O’Donnell.

Ford, a rookie in the INEX Bandoleros cars, has been impressive with her No. 54 car with six main event triumphs and the division point lead. And Friday and Saturday performances continued the trend with three total victories.

In the first 12-lap race, Ford had to fight off another Bullring winner Wyatt Layne at the checkered flag with third going to Malcolm Mancias followed by Jeff Connors, Brooke Ford, Leila Trimmer, Austin French and Casey Piplic.

“It’s been a great year in the Bandoleros, and I hope to move to the Legends in the near future,” said Ford. “I knew Wyatt was close on the last few laps and I got sideways with some traffic too. I had to keep my line in both races, and I knew I had good chances to win. I’m very happy to take the point lead into the final race of the year at the Bullring.”

In race two for the Bandoleros, Ford had an exciting race early with Layne and Mancias, but, on lap five, Layne was force to the sidelines with a mechanical problem. Ford and Mancias continued their wheel-to-wheel battle before Caitlyn took the win. Following Mancias in third was Leila Trummer with fourth going Mariyah Solomon and fifth to Piplic.

As the ninth race of the Bullring campaign was finish, who knew four championships would be less than ten points entering the Oct. 18 Championship and Fan Appreciation Night?

Jacks, the older brother of the Jacks racing duo, was hooked up Saturday with his No. 29 Battleborn Racing machine in the tough NASCAR 602 Modified class, as he moved within four points of his brother, Kyle, for the Modifieds point lead. Jacks was the fourth different Bullring Modified winner in four races (Sam Jacks, Brian Williams, Kyle Jacks and Kayli Peterson).

Jumping to the lead at the drop of the green flag, S. Jacks dominated the 40-lap finale for his third Bullring victory of the season with Peterson taking runner-up followed by multi-time Bullring champion Doug Hamm, K. Jacks, Ben Williams, Jimmy Petrie, Damien Harrison and Stephen Brucker.

“This car was on rails tonight,” said S. Jacks. “We were good early in the year and then we had some issues with the car that we had to figure out. But we got the steering where we wanted it now, and it’s going to be a battle with my brother in two weeks for the championship. Both cars can win the race and the title. I just want to be that guy.”

For Miller, he is after a third Factory Outlaw Stock point title with his fast No. 21 stock car after a solid victory Saturday in the 20-lap main event. It was Miller’s third straight feature win and moves him within two points of his teammate and point leader Pete Meyer. In Saturday’s race, Miller jumped to the lead from the outside and never looked back.

Miller was the winner with Nick Lauttenbach taking second followed by Rob Pfaffly, Meyer, Carl Duryee, Elyse Markfraf and Brad Thompson.

“That’s my best outside restart even,” said Miller. “I didn’t want the red flag since my brake pedal went to the floor. I knew Nick might be close and I couldn’t really hold off if he was there. I have to stout out to Nick because he is very close to winning races. He’ll be really tough next year.”

Geary, the veteran driver from Las Vegas, had upset point leader Kyle Jacks last month in the Super Stocks, and he was looking to do the same with his No. 45 stock car on Saturday. Starting on the outside of the front row, Geary jumped to lead and battled Jacks right down to the final lap in the 20-lap feature, but, despite some contact with Kyle on the backstraight, Don was able to claim his second win of the season. Geary is now just 10 points back of K. Jacks for the Bullring Super Stock crown. Pfaffly took second with Jacks third.

“I knew Kyle was there at the end and I had to do everything to keep the lead,” said Geary. “Kyle is a great driver, and he has won a lot of races at the Bullring. Just glad this one was my turn. We’ll be ready for the big races in two weeks.”

Local Las Vegas star Cody Brown, a former national Legends Car champion, has continued to show his potential in the NASCAR Pro Late Model category and Saturday showed Brown’s talents with a dominating performance in his No. 88X stock car. After an early battle with Spencer Gallagher, Brown was able to pull out a solid margin and score his sixth 2025 feature win. The victory moves Cody closer to his first Bullring Pro Late Model series championship.

Second in the 50-lap NASCAR Pro Late Model finale was Pahrump’s R.J. Smotherman followed by Gavin Ray, Gallagher, T.J. Roberts, Johnny Spilotro, young Cam Carraway and Kylie Ith.

“I had to get into a rhythm and then the car was really good,” said Brown. “Driving a Pro Late Model is much than a Legends Car as the Legends is very twitchy. With the Pro Late Model, it is more of a mind game, and the races are longer. But I think I am improving with the bigger car with each race. Tonight’s race feels very good to win.”

Brown currently holds a 27-point advantage over Smotherman with the Oct. 18 final event looming.

In the Skid Plate doubleheader, one race went counterclockwise, and one race went clockwise which is an exciting proportion for the racing fans. In the opener, Rich McMahon and Dylan Hummel had a great fight for the lead before McMahon slid inside the lead and his first Skid Plate main event win. In second race, point leader Greg Lee took his fourth victory of the year over Hummel, and Lee’s point lead is just six points over Hummel. Hummel’s “Lightning McQueen” machine was runner-up again followed by Ryan Piplic, Steven Belling and Mike McIntyre.

The Mini Stock feature was another duel with Ben Williams and Travis Boyle, as Boyle, the point leader, closed in on the Las Vegas racer but couldn’t get by at the end of 15 laps. It was Williams’ back-to-back wins over Boyle with third going to McIntyre followed by Cecilia Williams, Melissa Lurkins and Piplic.

NEXT RACE: “Championship and Fan Appreciation Night” is the finale for the regular Bullring schedule, the Round 10 of the 10-race season, with the racing set for Saturday, Oct. 18, including the Pro Late Models, 602 Modifieds, USLCI Legend Cars, Super Stock, Factory Outlaws, Skid Plates, Mini Stocks and Bandoleros. Adult general admission is $11.83 with children 12 & under free. And don’t forget about the CARS/ARCA Special Event on Friday, Oct. 10, with some of the top young racing talent on the West Coast in action.  For more information, please contact the LVMS ticket office at 800-644-4444 or online at LVMS.com. For stockyard passes, please call 800-644-4444, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. PST.
