Johnny Spilotro, Pro Late Model Driver #77 for Scuderia SG Speed, sponsored by Diamondback Land Surveying, Polar Shades Sun Control, Bravo Tickets, Frank's European Services, Andson, Full Metal Worldwide, and CSM.
What class are you racing this season?
We are racing the pro, late model division, this season.
What is your car number and why?
I picked #77 because that was the number my father ran back at the bullring in late models and super late models and had a very successful career. I hope to do the same carrying the number as a family heirloom.
When did you start racing?
I started racing in go-karts when I was about 10, but have been racing at the bullring since I was 12 when I started in bandoleros.
What other tracks have you raced at?
We have raced at Havasu this year and plan on trying out Irwindale Speedway or Tucson speedway as well for 2021.
What do you like about the Bullring?
The Bullring is a technique-centered track. There is hardly any room for error and your line as well as your pedal modulation has to be precise in order to obtain the optimal lap time. Plus, blasting off the corners when you hit it right is the most amazing feeling inside a racecar. Not only is it a driver's track, but it's also our home track, and I am happy to see it resurrect from the ashes this year!
If there was a magic race genie, what would you race, on what track, and why?
I would choose to drive a cup car at every single cup race this year because I would love to have the opportunity to race against 40 of the best drivers in the world and to prove my worth among NASCAR's Elite.
What are your future racing goals?
My goals spread beyond the confines of the bullring. Not only would I love to race in the NASCAR Cup Series one day, but I would love it even more if I eclipsed the NASCAR championship record by winning 10 titles. Yet also, I am living my dream as a professional athlete already, and I am loving every minute of competing here at the highest level making a name for myself!
What is your favorite pizza topping?
My favorite pizza topping would probably be pepperoni and Italian sausage.
What advice would you give to a young person interested in being a race car driver?
The best advice I could give to young racers moving up the ranks is to never forget the fun factor behind the sport. It will motivate you to put in the work and the long hours in the shop, on the track, and in the classroom. Keep your vision intact and as your #1 priority and you will climb very high! Outwork all of your competitors, but never underestimate them. You do that, and no amount of money or equipment will ever defeat you!
What is your favorite pump-up song?
Can't Stop by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
